Openpicus open source project released the new IDE 2.0 to give users an improved programming enviroment. The openpicus IDE is made for Flyport, openpicus wi-fi module and makes the development of wireless application easier.

Flyport is a smart Wi-Fi module based on PIC 24F microcontroller and MRF24WB0M certified Transceiver from Microchip. Flyport runs wireless stack and your application, all in one. Openpicus framework, based on freeRTOS, allows the user to easily manage the interaction between hardware (UART, Analog and Digital I/Os, SPI, I2C, PWM) and Wi-Fi events.

The new IDE 2.0 introduces the project Templates concept: you can create, save and share a Template for your hardware configuration and stack settings.

Another important feature is the webpage import: Flyport can work as wireless webserver and with this feature you can easily import the html, javascript, images you developed with your favourite WYSIWYG html editor.

From the picusLAB in Rome the core team declares: “The IDE 2.0 is a great step ahead for the project. It comes after only 3 months after the 1.0 and we collected all the informations and suggestions from the community. Openpicus IDE is used from more than 1000 people around the world and this give us the energy and effort to go ahead better and better. Also a lot of companies started development with Openpicus because they understood that Flyport is not just a “serial to Wi-Fi” module, but a smart, highly integrated low cost solution for their wireless needs.”

Some examples of applications on Flyport are: wireless sensors, robotics, energy monitoring and many more. The IDE 2.0 is free, you can download it from “Openpics IDE 2.0 Getting started”
